In the battle against illness, how often do we overlook the pain itself? While survival and recovery dominate our attention among critical illnesses, there is a silent gap in the treatment process - pain management.
According to the Hong Kong government’s Cancer Online Resource Hub, 7 out of 10 cancer patients experience severe pain, which adversely affects their sleep, appetite, and daily lives on average. Beyond cancer, many individuals also suffer from spinal nerve pain and sciatica due to work-related injuries or other reasons, highlighting the widespread need for comprehensive pain care.
面對病患時，我們往往只關心生死和康復的問題，卻忽略病人的痛楚管理，造成醫治過程的缺口。
根據香港政府癌症網上資源中心的數字，平均每10名癌症患者就有7個人曾經歷嚴重的痛楚，影響睡眠、食慾、日常生活。癌症之外，也有很多人因為工傷意外或各種原因，飽受脊髓神經痛及坐骨神經痛之苦，凸顯出全面疼痛管理的重要。
Programme Introduction 計劃簡介
Launched by Dr. Kenix Chan, the founder and chairman of the Hong Kong Pain Management (Critical Illness) Caring Foundation, the programme will donate Medtronic SynchroMedTM II intrathecal pumps and Intellis Spinal cord stimulation devices to the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine at the University Of Hong Kong, as well as full financial support for cancer, spinal neuropathic pain and sciatica patients to undergo surgeries at the Queen Mary Hospital. By relieving chronic pain, the programme helps patients reclaim their dignity and quality of life, allowing them to once again embrace everyday moments of comfort and joy with their families.
“We should break the shackle of financial diffculties and stop the suffering,” Kenix envisions that patients could regain dignity and quality of life, and enjoy family time. Patients will receive full funding for the surgery upon doctor’s assessment.
計劃由香港痛楚管理（危疾）關懷基金創辦人兼主席陳寧諄博士發起，將向香港大學李嘉誠醫學院捐出全植入式鎮痛泵及脊髓神經刺激器，為患有癌症、脊髓神經痛及坐骨神經痛的病人提供全額資助，於瑪麗醫院進行手術。病人能在數天內減輕劇痛，降低對鴉片類藥物的依賴，重拾尊嚴與生活質素，與家人享天倫之樂。
陳寧諄博士相信：「我們應該打破經濟困難的枷鎖，讓痛苦得以停止。」在醫生認為合適的情況下，病人將獲得全額手術費用資助。

The Intrathecal Drug Delivery System, commonly known as an intrathecal pump, is a device that delivers precise doses of medication to targeted areas of the body to achieve highly effective pain relief. Currently, intrathecal drug delivery therapy is hailed as the “ultimate” solution for cancer pain.
